![]() Wired has a very interesting article on a falcon found in Central and South America that specialises in eating wasps. The red-throated Caracara will repeatedly attack wasp nest, relying on the behaviour characteristic of the wasps in that region to eventually abandon the nest. The Caracara will then take the wasp nest to their chicks, enabling the chicks to feed on the protein rich wasp larvae. Unfortunately this tactic probably would not work in the Northern hemisphere, as the short breeding season means that wasps will be more determinedly protective of their nests. For a more conventional (though unfortunately less interesting) form of wasp nest removal in Cornwall, please contact Kevin at HT Bird and Pest Control Services.
